Emotional Regulation

Emotional Granularity:
Getting more specific about how we feel

We often describe our emotions using broad labels, such as saying we’re sad or surprised. But sometimes, it helps to go deeper so we can understand where these feelings may be coming from.

For example, what we call surprised might actually be shocked or startled, or what we call sad might be lonely or disappointed.

This is called emotional granularity — it’s the ability to describe our emotions in more detail. Doing this can help us process what’s happening inside, regulate our emotions, and talk about our feelings more clearly.

we’re grateful for 🙂
